The occasion is the interior ministers are meeting up in Wiesbaden on 7th of December. Here the ministers will, among other things, decided on a new right to stay for long tolerated refugees. Should they ideally fins a decision without closing rate and income independent obstacles more than 10,000 Roma could benefit from this solution. Some of them live for over 20 years in Germany and are acutely threatened by deportation.

Just on the 7.12. again a collective deportation to Kosovo is planned. Affected is also a Roma family in Castrop-Rauxel who has lived in Germany for 23 years, with five children, all born in Germany. One more reason for us to protest that day against the current and planned deportations and to stimulate a rethinking of the Interior ministers!

For this purpose we have collected several thousand signatures, which we want on the edge of the IMK passed to the chairman of the conference, minister Boris Rhein.

Tolerated refugees in Germany are forced to live in constant fear of deportation. This status was created only for people who have fled their home country temporary because of war and are willing to go back as soon as the situation is save again. But in practice it is often the case that people are forced to live for years or even decades in this condition. This means in addition to the constant uncertainty also an extremely limited access to the labor market and a ban to leave the district in which someone is registered without special permission. Many of the Roma are tolerated in Germany. They are exposed in many Eastern European countries to extreme discrimination and often have to survive in extreme poverty. Especially for children who grew up in Germany, for old and sick people a deportation is unbearable.

The campaign is a response of young, often themself tolerated, Roma on the readmission agreement between Germany and Kosovo. They demands the right to stay with the full participation in society for Roma living in Germany and other long tolerated refugees. "For 600 years we have lived in Europe and as long is the history of discrimination, displacement, enslavement and murder. It is high time that we stand up and demand our participation as equal citizens of this country. The German government should prepare the legal requirement. Also for the historic responsibility towards the Roma." If you are interested, there is the possibility to conduct an intervie with us and with some young Roma who are involved in the campaign.
